Mountain Biking Getting Started
Aimed at anyone who can ride a bike and who would like to take it off road. Looking at basic riding skills, emergency repairs, basic map reading, safety, bike maintenance and equipment. We can supply a quality bike to ride and give you advice on getting the right bike for you. Very practical course with bike routes tailored to individual’s abilities.

Rock Climbing for beginners
This course is designed to give a good basic knowledge and introduction to the various aspects of rock climbing. Covering equipment, techniques, conversation and safety you will acquire the skills to become a competent second. Instructors will pass on their knowledge and expertise giving tips on purchasing equipment, training and how to progress. A very practical course visiting quarries, sea cliffs, and outcrops as well as indoor centres.

Rock Climbing Intermediate
Aimed at anyone who has some climbing experience or who have completed level 1. Looking at the possibility of leading climbs for your self. Rope work, guidebook interpretation, choosing routes, selection of equipment and placement of protection. On completion of this course you should have a good understanding of lead climbing and may be get climbing under your own steam. Includes a session on “What if?” scenarios.

Rock Climbing Improvers
Lead climbing coaching looking at individuals needs. Covering movement on rock, advance rope work, improvised rescue and how to improve your general technique. Also double rope techniques and runner placements as well as mental approach.

Navigation
We operate the National Navigation Award Scheme, which is arranged in three levels. Starting at a complete beginner to advanced. Each level of proficiency is recognised by a certificate validated to a national level.
Bronze: Navigation mainly by linear features with help from basic compass techniques.
Silver: Partly off-path navigation with some contour interpretation and distance judgement.
Gold: Complex navigation on contoured open or woodland terrain employing a full range of interpretative and compass techniques.
During the first evening there will be an informal chat to help us Assess individuals level of understanding. On Saturday morning by a short classroom seassion looking at theory as necessary. The rest of the day will be a practical session on local hills and more land including orienteering course and night navigation. Sunday is part of the ongoing assessment process leading to evaluation and awards.

Expedition Training
For anyone that may be thinking of undertaking an expedition, Charity Trek or Charity Bike Ride to a developing country, a remote area, a jungle or high level mountain experience. These courses are tailored to type and duration of expedition. Subjects that may be included: camp craft, medical conditions, emergencies, river crossing techniques, emergency bike repairs, equipment selection, hammocks, shelter building, what to take and what not to.
